The up ‘n coming hip-hop artist SOOKIE is a blend of old and new school tastes. Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, and moving to California at the age of four, he currently resides in Northern California by Davis. Original inspirations being hyped on music as a youngster come from bumping classic tunes with his pops in the car, from artists like Roc Marciano, Dead Prez, and Gang Starr.
When staying creative, Sookie keeps it real, “Don’t overthink, keep it simple.” His newest release, “Life is too short! EP” has driven community support from old homies to new fans alike. Remarkable for his first-ever show, Sookie got the chance to open for TDE’s Isaiah Rashad at a student-organized event Lawntopia.
Fast forward to a few months ago, CVC had the chance to catch a surprise Sookie set at another student-led event up in Davis alongside acts like Honeyboys and Ladders.
